Dry Needling

Dry needling is a technique where a sterile needle is typically inserted into a taut band of muscle and is most utilized in the treatment of pain. Limited research indicates it may additionally improve aspects of performance such as muscular strength and power, increase flexibility and jump height (Tang & Song, 2022).

While underpinning mechanisms are yet to be elucidated, the existence of trigger points and the subsequent release after dry needling application, may improve muscular activation patterns hence

re-establishing movement balance and better mechanics. Although more research is needed before permitting evidence-based recommendations, limited adverse effects suggest it may be worth ‘giving a shot’ as an ergogenic aid.
