Hip & Groin Injuries in Women’s Hockey

In a recently published study by Worner et al., the authors highlighted the high incidence of hip and groin problems in female ice hockey players. In fact, two thirds of the professional players in the study reported hip and groin problems the previous season (2020). Ice hockey is one of the fastest growing sports amongst females in North America, hence the importance of addressing one of the most common injuries in the women’s game. Hip and groin injuries are largely chronic, lingering from season to season and perhaps part of the reason for such high prevalence. The majority of these injuries are also due to overuse & hence therein lies potential to target this area with preventative exercises in a player’s dryland protocol both in & out of season.

@athleticwise is very honoured to once again be contributing to the @ctwickfest @hchickwick International World Hockey Festival. This year’s format is strictly off-ice, but the quality of the event continues to progress as fast as the popularity of the game. For those tuning in to the event tomorrow, learn some excellent hip & groin strengthening exercises that will keep you strong & healthy for years to come.
